In this book, ‘It’s a Pug Life with Anxieties’ you will come to meet and know three souls that are all equally different yet connected by their anxieties. A dog trainer with general anxiety and past traumatic experiences, a puppy Pug with anxiety and mild aggression and a handler with anxiety and a past with depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They met quite out of the blue with the goal of training the Pug, named Lucy to be an Emotional Support Dog (ESD) for Lilly, the handler. Strangely enough, they soon discovered that they all shared similar if not the same anxieties. All felt anxious, uncomfortable and nervous when meeting new people, when going into new environments, when being left alone or going to places alone and when trying new things. Once they realised that common connection they were able to form stronger communication skills, leadership and anxiety management. Knowing that one another had been struggling with different levels of anxiety in their lives they were able to work together and create a more comfortable and supportive environment for each other, simply due to the understanding of how general anxiety affected themselves as well as the other person/dog. It is generally considered that anxiety can make everyday things difficult. Even the simplest of tasks. Sometimes having someone near who is supportive and understanding makes those things easier and helps us manage those feelings we get when anxiety jumps on us. Which is why Lucy, the Pug was chosen by Lilly’s family to be trained as her ESD. And helping with anxieties was also one of the reasons why the trainer, Robyn, decided to start up her own business training dogs and providing behaviour training services to dogs and owners in need. It was just a small coincident that Lucy, Lilly and Robyn got thrown together with all their anxieties. And it was an even bigger coincident that the training went beyond that of simply training a Pug to be a ESD. What started as Service Dog training quickly developed into teamwork and relationships building on support, understanding and communication that provided all three with new skills to manage their own anxieties and to become confident leaders. Normally you read sad stories of how anxiety has led to the destruction and deterioration of a soul, this story however, as full of real events as it is, tells a different story. One of hope, progression and compassion. In this book, anxiety was the main catalyst that helped develop the lives of three little beings.  A dog, a handler and a trainer.
